Working Title Staff Psychologist/ Social Worker

Provide direct professional clinical services to students experiencing emotional and adjustment difficulties and participate in all aspects of the Counseling Center’s efforts to support the developmental and psychological growth and adaptation of students. Provide support for historically under-represented students. Additionally responsible for ancillary and consultative work of the Center across campus and supervision and instruction of the Center’s advanced practicum students who in turn provide a substantial array of direct care to the Emerson student body and college community.
Please note that this is a 10 month position

Primary Duties, Responsibilites, and Tasks
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment)

Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology or Master’s in Social Work (MSW); licensure as psychologist or social worker in Massachusetts; expertise in intercultural psychotherapy with diverse and historically underrepresented populations; strong clinical skills and a solid background in psychological crisis intervention and management; knowledgeable of psychological trends on college campuses; ability to effectively work with students from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences; a commitment to diversity and team building; excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred/Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment)

Experience in supervision with graduate practicum and interns.
Good computer skills, fluency in Windows Office Products and Electronic Medical Reports (EMRs).

Required Prior Work Experience

Three to four years experience in college mental health or community mental health and supervision.
Experience leading therapy groups

Job Duties

Individual Work Activities

Provide individual psychological evaluation, short-term psychotherapy, crisis intervention, referrals, and case management to students with diverse backgrounds and ethnicities who are in psychological/emotional distress.

Individual Work Activities

Administrative duties as assigned, which may include coordinating Center’s outreach programming, developing a group therapy program, and/or managing in-service training.

Individual Work Activities

Supervise one or two practicum graduate students in psychology or social work with full clinical and legal responsibility for their work and documentation; provide training in college mental health issues, intercultural therapy and diversity, and procedures to all Center interns.

Individual Work Activities

Provide outreach and programming offerings to the campus community including training of resident assistants, crisis debriefings, and workshops. Consult with campus professionals regarding student mental health, well-being and intercultural awareness.

Communicate regularly with center staff on clinical and administrative matters and enhance departmental collaboration and quality of care provided to students by attending scheduled staff and clinical team meetings, case conferences, individual supervision and peer supervision as assigned

Provide emergency daytime coverage for students in acute crisis, triage needs, arrange outside administrative, transport and medical/hospital intervention as needed; consult with involved professionals, college staff, and family or friends when indicated; follow all ethical, legal, and clinical standards of confidentiality.

Participate in on-call rotation, responding to after-hours emergencies as needed

Participate in external professional associations to maintain and extend clinical knowledge and expertise and to develop and deepen referral networks for students requiring specialized services off-campus; sustain and deepen knowledge base of best current practices in psychology and college mental health with regular educational activities and conference attendance;

Maintain appropriate clinical records by writing on-going case notes, intake and termination summaries in accordance with Massachusetts state laws
